SENIORS: IF YOU ARE AN ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN WITH A MINIMUM 3.0 GPA, SEE MRS. CHOMIK FOR A SCHOLARSHIP WITH A DUE DATE OF OCTOBER 8, 2008. IT COULD BE WORTH $3,000 TOWARD YOUR COLLEGE EXPENSES.

College Corps helps seniors with the college search and application process. This includes writing personal essays, writing scholarship essays, finding financial aid, and sorting through the FAFSA financial aid application. There is no charge for this assistance. We also help with completing your SHS Senior Profile.

College deadlines are just that: deadlines. Some come as early as November. Don't wait until the last minute!

SENIORS – IF YOU WOULD LIKE THE YEARBOOK TO USE A PORTRAIT OTHER THAN YOUR SCHOOL PICTURE, YOU NEED TO TURN IT IN TO THE OFFICE OR GET IT TO MR. LEFFLER BY FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7. AFTER THAT DATE, WE WILL HAVE TO USE YOUR SCHOOL PHOTO RATHER THAN ONE TAKEN BY AN OUTSIDE PHOTOGRAPHER.

Monday, Oct 6 is Military Day. Please join us, during both lunches, from 11:00-12:45, in the Cafeteria Lobby.

In November you have the opportunity to vote for the next President. Have you registered to vote? If you haven't , go to the library, get a registration form and fill it out as soon as possible because the deadline for sending the form in is October 4th.
The deadline for turning in Sally Foster fundraising order forms is October 9th. The turn in box is by Ms. Stillwell’s desk. This is sponsored by the freshman class of 2012, but anyone can place an order.

Latino H.E.A.T. will be meeting starting mid October in Room 932. More details will be announced next week. This is a club where you can practice your Spanish and participate in cultural and community events.

Students that are interested in math, science, art, architecture, engineering and construction. The ACE MENTOR PROGRAM of Washington is starting up again for the 2008-2009 school year, from Oct –May. It is free. Students have a chance to work as a team with professionals from some of the largest and prestige companies in America. Do not miss this internship opportunity that help you build a good resume. The application deadline is October 10. For more information, please see the career specialist, Mrs. McDonald.
School pictures will be on Wednesday, October 15. All students and staff need to have a picture taken for their school ID. Packets to make purchase are available in the main office.
On October 16th at 1:00pm a representative from Cornish College is coming to the SHS Career Center. Everyone is welcome.

Students interested in Science, might consider Lake Washington Watershed Internship for twelve months. The internship program is in Bellevue, at Kelsey Creek. Participants study the watershed and then teach local elementary age students about it. 90 hours of internship can be considered as community service hours. To apply, please contact Mrs McDonald in the career center or Julie Rose at 425.450.0207.

The Career Center website is up and running and ready to serve you. It has links to scholarships, internships, careers, CTE and Nevac classes, calendar and much more. It is a way to start your career search.

RELIEVE LAST MINUTE GRADUATION STRESS – 40 HOURS COMMUNITY SERVICE REQUIRED TO GRADUATE – START ACCUMULATING HOURS NOW…...The 24th Annual Jingle Bell Run & Walk to benefit the Arthritis Foundation will be held Sunday, December 14th at Westlake Center in Downtown Seattle. They are looking for over 400 volunteers – Check the Community Service table outside the Cafeteria.
